How Does Tattoo Removal Work?
What is Tattoo Removal?
Tattoo removal is a procedure that removes unwanted tattoos. This can be done with lasers or with surgery.
Here at VIP Laser, we offer tattoo removal with the PicoLaser! The Picolaser helps reduce the appearance of melasma, wrinkles, acne scars and pigment like freckles, sunspots, discoloration and you guessed it, tattoos!
How does tattoo removal work?
The PicoLaser is a dual wavelength (1064nm and 532nm) pico-second laser that is used to penetrate the skin. The heat from the PicoLaser causes the pigmented particles of the tattoo to break up into smaller pieces which are then removed by the lymphatic system.
Black tattoos are the easiest to remove and absorbs all lasers. If you’re looking to remove a colored tattoo, more likely than not, another type of laser will have to be used. The reason for this is because not all colors absorb the same wavelengths of lasers, therefore some colors may not be broken down.
What to expect during your tattoo removal treatment.
When you come in for your tattoo removal session, expect to be there for at least an hour. Before our laser technician begins the tattoo removal treatment, they will apply a cream-based anesthetic on the tattoo. After that you’ll have to wait 30 minutes to make sure that the anesthesia takes full effect. Next comes removing your tattoo!
Before removing the tattoo, the laser tech will cover your eyes with protective goggles. Next, they’ll do a patch test to ensure that they’re using the most effective wavelength for the tattoo. Last, they’ll pass the laser over the tattoo!
After each treatment you must wait a minimum of eight weeks until your next session.
When will you see results?
No one tattoo is the same. Each tattoo is either a different size or a different color. It’s difficult to say how long it’ll take to remove a tattoo because it depends on the size and on the ink that was used. Some tattoos can be removed with only three sessions, while others can take up to 12 sessions or more to be fully removed.
Even though it takes long, with tattoo removal you will have your tattoo removed permanently.
