If you’re reading this, you most likely have a few products sitting in your bathroom, and you probably don’t have any idea in what order they should be applied. Well don’t worry, we’re here to break down all of the steps for you.
Here is a brief overview of the order you should be applying your skincare in!
- Cleanser
- Exfoliate (1 – 2 times a week)
- Toner
- Serums
- Eye cream
- Moisturizer
- Sunscreen
STEP 1: CLEANSER
The very first thing you should do when starting your morning routine is cleanse your face! We are constantly shedding dead skin and cleansing our face in the morning helps remove all of the dead skin that’s laying on our face. Cleansing will also remove all of the products that were applied the night before! Now that you’ve cleansed, you should have a clean surface to apply your products!
STEP 2: EXFOLIATE (1 – 2 TIMES A WEEK)
If you are exfoliating every day, you need to stop! Exfoliating your skin everyday causes your skin to produce more oils which can lead to breakouts! It’s very important that you exfoliate only once or twice a week. This way you won’t harm your skin, but you will remove oil build up, and dead skin cells!
STEP 3: TONER
Most people do not incorporate toners into their skincare routine, but let me tell you why you should! Toners helps balance your skin’s pH and prepares it for the application of serums and moisturizers. Toners are filled with helpful ingredients and nutrients that will give you a glowing complexion throughout the day.
STEP 4: SERUMS
Serums are filled with nutrients and antioxidants that are amazing for your skin. Serums should be patted on the skin, and not rubbed in. A good way to remember to apply serums first, is by remembering to apply products with watery consistencies prior to creamy ones. There are so many serums out there, so it is important to find one that is perfect for your skin type. A good serum that is effective on all skin types is hyaluronic acid!
STEP 5: EYE CREAM
Our under eyes are very delicate and often are one of the first areas that remind us that we’re aging. There are many under eye creams that are created to tighten and brighten our under eyes! To apply, use your ring finger and gently apply to eye cream in circular motions.
STEP 6: MOISTURIZER
Moisturizer is extremely important! Applying moisturizer on your skin is like giving your skin a glass of water. Moisturizer is going to hydrate your skin and prevent it from creating pimples and oil. Moisturizer seals everything together and should be your last step before applying sunscreen!
STEP 7: SUNSCREEN
Many people skip over this step and do not realize the importance of sunscreen. Believe it or not, applying sunscreen is the most important part of your entire routine, and it’s because it creates a barrier on your skin that fights UV lights. Sunscreen is also one of the best anti agers and can prevent wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, and more. Remember to always apply sunscreen if you plan on leaving your home.
