Melasma is a skin condition that causes dark, brown patches to appear on the skin.

Melasma is usually darker than your skin tone and can appear on the cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin. It can also appear on the neck and arms.

Melasma can be caused by a variety of things. One of the biggest causes of melasma is hormonal changes.

Women that are pregnant, take birth control pills, or do hormone therapy are at risk of triggering melasma. Another cause of melasma is stress and thyroid disease. Sun exposure can also cause melasma because ultraviolet rays affect the cells that control pigment.

Yes! Melasma is treatable! Sometimes it can be cured on its own, but most times, you will need treatment to help remove the melasma.
